Homicide Suspect Search in Lake Barrington on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 YouTube Tips ⓘ

Two suspects were apprehended, arrested, and charged on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, following a massive law enforcement search and then a standoff with homicide suspect Osceola Little in the Pepper Road Business Park in Lake Barrington.

Homicide suspect Osceola Little was not initially charged with homicide after the Lake Barrington standoff, but he is wanted by the Chicago Police Department for the investigation of the shooting death of Robert Little, age 33, in the block of 4800 W. West End Avenue near Cicero Avenue in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. The fatal shooting occurred at about 10:23 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2024. Robert Little was treated for multiple gunshot wounds in the face and arms, and was transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to Level 1 Trauma Center Mount Sinai where he was pronounced dead at about 11:00 p.m. Monday.

Robert Little was possibly a resident of the West Garfield Park or Homan Square neighborhood in Chicago.

Osceola Little is a resident of Everett, Washington.

Tuesday’s manhunt incident began with the sighting of the vehicle associated with the homicide moving westbound on I-290 at Harlem Avenue about 11:09 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The vehicle sighted was a dark blue 4-door Chevrolet pickup truck, and was discovered about three miles west of the homicide scene. Police officers in the area immediately converged near the vehicle. A police officer from south suburban Posen apparently happened to be in the area, and was able to provide updated location information. At no time Tuesday was there an actual vehicle pursuit reported. Police departments from Elmhurst, Elk Grove Village, Villa park and Schaumburg provided early location information updates. At one point the driver of the pickup truck may turned in to the Alexian Brothers Medical Center property. Also, at around 11:30 a.m. the pickup truck driver was passing northbound on Arlington Heights Road near Elk Grove High School at a high rate of speed while students were being let out of school around lunch time. Police officers were advised to use extra caution in the area.

The driver of the pickup truck fled out of sight near Arlington Heights Road and I-90, and was spotted briefly on northbound I-290 WEST/Illinois Route 53. The next solid location confirmation was reported when the driver of the pickup truck was involved in a hit-and-run crash at Route 14 and Pepper Road at 12:00 p.m.

Initially unknown to the police, the driver of the pickup truck turned right at the entrance to the Swiss Automation parking lot just northwest of Pepper Road.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officers from Fox River Grove, Cary, Crystal Lake and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office lined up along Route 14 and also patrolled their jurisdictions for the search of the pickup truck.

Chicago Police officers and Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies reported the vehicle was located at about 12:42 p.m. in the parking lot of Swiss Automation, 1020 Northwest Highway. To protect the public from danger and begin search operations, US-14 WEST was immediately shut down.

Police immediately secured the unoccupied vehicle.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 11:55 a.m. August 20, 2024 to a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash on Route 14 at Pepper Road in Lake Barrington. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area and began checking for the offending vehicle in the hit-and-run. At approximately 12:35 p.m., the vehicle was located abandoned at Swiss Automation just northwest of Pepper Road, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officers determined the abandoned vehicle was associated with a recent homicide that occurred in Chicago, and was likely driven by the homicide suspect, Osceola L. Little, age 38, of the 6600 block of Gateway Terrace, Everett, Washington. Additionally, it was learned by Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies that earlier in the day Osceola Little fled from law enforcement while police were tailing the vehicle. Information was relayed that Little was believed to be armed and dangerous.

A large perimeter was established with the assistance of local law enforcement agencies. Nearby public and private schools, as well as municipal governments were notified. Video surveillance was obtained from an area business which showed Little exiting the crashed vehicle with a duffle bag and a woman exiting the vehicle with a backpack, both then fled on foot.

The sheriff’s office deployed dozens of deputies, including specialized units, to conduct a coordinate search, aided by numerous local police officers. The operation was managed from the Lake County Sheriff’s new mobile command vehicle. As the sheriff’s office runs its own dispatch center, emergency dispatch staff was able to be allocated to the command vehicle, which provided greater intelligence gathering and faster information relayed to units in the field.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., the female who fled from the crash, identified as Luisa Sanchez, 22, of the 28800 block of West South Street, Cary, was located and taken into custody at a gas station in the area of Route 14 and Kelsey Road. She had been captured on a quality surveillance image wearing a black top, red pants and carrying a white backpack. Lake County Sheriff’s detectives determined Sanchez hid a firearm inside of the gas station. Members of the sheriff’s office and Chicago Police Department located the firearm hidden inside a bathroom air vent while using a K-9.

Approximately 18 minutes before Luisa Sanchez was arrested at Speedway, the Lake County Sheriff's Office released the surveillance image of homicide suspect Osceola Little exiting the blue pickup truck on their Facebook page. The quality image capture also helped police positively identify the physical description of Luisa Sanchez, who had been standing outside the Speedway near the shoulder of Route 14 at least since about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday when CARDINAL NEWS arrived at the scene (SOURCE: Lake County Sheriff's Office).

At approximately 6:20 p.m., Little was seen by one of the police units searching the area, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Little, now shirtless, immediately ran when confronted. Sheriff’s deputies and area police officers pursued him on foot, and Little ran into an occupied industrial building in the 21900 block of Pepper Road, Lake Barrington. Sheriff’s deputies were able to contain Little to an office room in the building, and safely evacuate the employees who were working inside.

Members of the sheriff’s office tactical response team and sheriff’s negotiators began communications with Little. After skillful negotiations, Little surrendered at approximately 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Further investigation revealed the firearm hidden by Sanchez belongs to Little and it appears to be the firearm used in the Chicago homicide, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
