A young adult female was arrested at the Speedway at the northeast corner of US-14 and Kelsey Road in Lake Barrington, just a few hundred yards northwest of where she allegedly fled on foot with a homicide suspect from their blue Chevrolet pickup truck that was involved in a crash.

The homicide suspect, Osceola L. Little, age 38, fled in another direction, but Luisa Sanchez, age 22, allegedly headed for the Speedway and got a Big Gulp while blending in with bystanders that gathered to watch the police activity that began at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024 when police discovered their abandoned pickup truck in a parking lot just northwest of the intersection of Route 14 and Pepper Road.

Luisa Sanchez, of the 28800 block of West South Street, Cary, also allegedly hid a firearm inside of the Speedway gas station’s retail building. Members of the sheriff’s office and Chicago Police Department located the firearm hidden inside a bathroom air vent.

Little and Sanchez were allegedly the perpetrators in a hit-and-run crash at Route 14 and Pepper Road at 11:55 a.m. while fleeing police that had been tailing, but not pursuing them, for at least an hour. Osceola Little was a homicide suspect who police were searching for Tuesday.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., Sanchez, who fled from the crash and was standing by the Speedway road sign on Route 14, was located and taken into custody at the Speedway gas station at Route 14 and Kelsey Road.

During the arrest of Sanchez, a personal injury motorcycle crash occurred on US-14 EAST directly across from the arrest scene.

When police arrested Luisa Sanchez, bystanders that had been speaking with Sanchez for the past 90 minutes or more were shocked in disbelief. Then some bystanders chastised her for asking where the nearest high school was located. She had inquired about a high school nearby.

Bystanders were heard saying …

“You were talking about the high school!”

“Kids go to that high school … what’s wrong with you?

A bystander said to police, “You better watch the high school. She was talking about the high school.”

She also asked a bystander for a ride, and also asked where the nearest pawn shop was located. She apparently told another witness about her recent traveling activities.

One witness said she told him that she knew the homicide suspect.

Around 12:45 to 12:50 p.m. she told CARDINAL NEWS … “get your news, get your shots.” She also told CARDINAL NEWS that she heard that the police activity was related to a homicide that occurred overnight, and that people had been searching for the homicide suspect since around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. When asked how she knew this, she replied, “just heard it; learned about it on the Internet.” Instinctually, something didn’t seem quite right or genuine with her.

Investigators were able to identify her from surveillance video captured at a nearby business. However, initially a police broadcast indicated the police should be on the lookout for two male black suspects. Her detailed description was broadcast approximated five minutes before her arrest — black top, red pants or shorts, and a white backpack with black lettering.

Osceola L. Little was arrested after a barricade situation that occurred from about 6:20 p.m. until about 8:15 p.m. in the Pepper Road Business Park, just northeast of the location where the pickup truck was discovered.

Osceola L. Little was charged with …

Little and Sanchez are due in First Appearance Court this morning, Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Additional charges are also likely by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office/Chicago Police Department.
