Former President Donald J. Trump on Monday, July 15, 2024 has won the Republican GOP nomination for President of the United States, and has announced has announced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate for Vice President of the United States.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump said.
Senator J.D. Vance was considered one of the most likely candidates for VP, along with Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota.

J.D. Vance, age 39, is a former venture capitalist and has served as a Senator for the state of Ohio for less than two years. Vance also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, including in Iraq, and is a graduate of Ohio State University and Yale Law School.
Trump endorsed Vance, helping him win his Senate seat and defeat a crowded Republican field in 2022.
