The Arlington Heights Police Department is investigating a death that occurred in the block of 4200 North Bloomington Avenue (Arbor Lakes Apartment Complex, just south of the intersection of Bloomington Avenue and Lake Cook Road).

Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 1:40 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024 when a resident of a multiunit apartment building called 9-1-1 to report a male had been shot inside her apartment. Arlington Heights police officers along with Buffalo Grove Police officers, were dispatched to the incident. Police officers arrived and immediately secured the scene.

A witness of the aftermath of the scene viewed from outside the scene on the street outside the apartment told CARDINAL NEWS that at least one police officer had a weapon drawn while the scene was apparently being secured. The woman also noticed a man described as a male/Hispanic was handcuffed, placed in a police vehicle, then placed in another police vehicle, and eventually transported from the scene

The self-admitted shooter and resident met responding officers outside. Officers were told a male had been shot. The shooting victim was located inside, on the ground level, in close proximity to the back door. Both the self-admitted shooter and the woman in the apartment were initially detained pending investigation.

Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics entered the apartment and assessed an individual who received a penetrating gun shot to the upper body. The individual experienced a traumatic injury that was not survivable, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Major Case Assistance Team was activated to provide technical assistance, working alongside with Arlington Heights Police Department investigators.

Both individuals located at the scene are now at the police station, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department. Detectives are focusing on a past relationship between the resident and the deceased as a possible contributing factor.

According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, there is an active Order of Protection, issued in the Circuit Court of Cook County, prohibiting the deceased from contacting the resident. An autopsy will be conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office tomorrow to determine an official cause of death.

Detectives are collaborating with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the early stages of this fluid investigation. This incident is being investigated as a contained occurrence with no threat to the public at large, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
