Storm report for Monday evening, July 15, 2024. Severe cloud-to-ground lightning. Most ComEd outages Tuesday morning are near I-90 and south of I-90 through west and southern Cook County into DuPage County and Will County.
The peak of the initial Quasi-Linear Convective System (QLCS) or squall line and bow echo passed over Arlington Heights about 9:45 p.m. to 9:55 p.m. The worst section of this QLCS in northwest Cook County appears to have hit southern Elk Grove Village and Streamwood with multiple tree branches down, power lines down or arcing, and activated alarms due to power surges and power outages.

10:25 PM — Power line down, arcing in the block of 200 Otis Road, Barrington Hills.
10:13 PM — Transformer fire Red Center dispatched somewhere for Engine 13 and Battalion 4.
9:56 PM — Possible lightning strike with smoke coming from an outlet immediately after loud thunder at apartment building at 1012 Arbor Court, Mount Prospect. (Firefighters report nothing showing on arrival. UPGRADED to a WORKING FIRE.)
9:45 PM — Power lines/tree branches down block 700 Sunset Circle Streamwood (??)
9:40 PM — A tree branch took down a power line to the house in the block of 700 block Surrey Drive Streamwood.
9:38 PM — Multiple crash with injuries, jackknifed trucks at the scene where high-voltage power lines fell across I-55 south of Arsenal Road near Channahon, Illinois.
9:35 PM — Power lines down across Plumb Grove Road near University Lane Schaumburg — west side of the southbound lanes ??
9:24 PM — Power lines on fire in block 0-99 Victoria Lane Streamwood
9:23 PM — Tree on power line in the block of 700 Oriole Drive Streamwood
8:30 PM — Flooding under railroad viaduct on Grand Avenue (Route 132) between O’Plaine Road and 1st Street, Gurnee
7:38 PM — Power lines down at Washington and Six Flags Drive, Gurnee.
