Police, firefighters and paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 10:04 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 to a report of a shooting at a townhouse in the block of 2000 Kettering Road in Hoffman Estates. However, an investigation at the scene discovered there were no gunshot victims at the scene.
Police received a report that offenders came to the front door of the townhouse and began shooting. Initially, a caller reported that someone had been shot. Within about 10 to 15 minutes police concluded that nobody had been shot. However, bullet holes were discovered in a wall near the front door.
Hoffman Estates Fire Department paramedics were released from the scene, but returned to the scene about an hour later to assess a victim with a non-gunshot injury that occurred during the disturbance.
Early information gathered by police at the scene indicated that three suspects arrived at the scene over some type of dispute. Police investigators believe the victims of the home invasion knew the armed group of suspects. The offenders are believed to be three male/black suspects.
Some suspects ran north toward Hassel Road and at least one suspect may have fled southbound from the shots fired townhouse scene up a hill in the backyard of the townhouse. A witness living in the neighborhood described at least one of the suspects as wearing a red top.
Neighbors told CARDINAL NEWS that they counted a number of shots ranging from two to six shots. One neighbor reported hearing additional shots about 20 minutes after initial shots. The neighbor didn’t believe the second group of noises were fireworks.
Police searched the neighborhood north and south of Hassell Road and near Kettering Road using a K-9 and a aerial drone. Police officers also canvassed the neighborhood to ask neighbors if they witnessed anything, or if their cameras may have detected any suspects. Police were searching the area of Barrington Lakes Apartments, which is located north of the shots fired scene at the townhouse south of Hassell Road.
Hoffman Estates Police Department set up a very large perimeter during the search, and received assistance from police officers from Schaumburg and Palatine, and possibly other police departments.
The perimeter was marked by a number of police SUVs parked near intersections with emergency lights activated.
