There have been two recent winnings of $1 million or more in Chicagoland in less than one week. Last night, Wednesday, July 11, 2024, a winning ticket was played on LuckyDay Lotto at the Jewel-Osco at 45 South Plum Grove Road in Palatine. The winning jackpot was $1,250,000, but no additional details are available yet.
This past weekend, a $1 million winning Lotto Million 1 ticket was purchased for the Saturday, July 6, 2024 drawing at the ARCO gas station, located at 2758 W. Peterson Ave., in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood.
The Chicago lottery retailer is overjoyed to learn that they recently sold a $1 million winning Lotto ticket – the same week one of their regular customers won $10,000 on an Instant Ticket, according to an Illinois Lottery news release.
“The news that we sold a $1 million winning Lotto ticket came just after one of our regular customers won $10,000 on a scratch-off ticket right here in front of me,” exclaims Jackpaul Singh, owner of ARCO in West Rogers Park. “I can’t believe we’ve had two big winners in the past week. I don’t know if it’s good karma or luck, but I look forward to seeing more winners walk through our doors!”
The lucky winner purchased their Lotto Million 1 ticket matching all six numbers in the July 6 drawing to score the $1 million prize. The winning numbers were: 1-8-12-16-28-49.
When asked if Singh knew who the newly-minted millionaire was, he said, “I’m not sure who it could be – but I’m definitely curious! I want them to come in and tell us so we can celebrate with them. I can’t wait to see the look of joy on their face.”
For the Saturday, July 6 drawing, over 37,000 winning Lotto tickets were sold. So far this year, nine lucky Illinois Lottery players have won a million dollars or more playing Lotto.
“I actually grew up in this neighborhood. I used to stop at this store and buy candy on my way to school. As soon as I saw the store was listed for sale a few years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to buy it,” shares Singh. “I’ve always loved this store and business couldn’t be better. The neighborhood is super diverse, very family-oriented, and has blessed us with an amazing, supportive customer base.”
This is also an exciting win for Singh’s ARCO, as the store will receive a bonus of one percent of the prize amount for selling the winning ticket.
Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw in which to claim their prize. The Illinois Lottery encourages all lucky winners to write their name on the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prize.
The Illinois-only game that is played three times a week on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. As well as the regular drawing, Lotto offers two additional drawings: Lotto Million 1 and Lotto Million 2. These are additional opportunities for players to match six numbers to win a $1 million prize.
