Illinois State Police troopers and firefighters and paramedics from Glenview responded about 3:38 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 to a report of s serious crash in the southbound lanes of I-294 at Mile Marker 44.75, which is near the Golf Road exit.
The crash was also detected with Crash Detection on an Apple, which activated an Apple Watch notification.
Glenview Fire Department paramedics on Ambulance 8 were first on the scene, and on arrival reported four vehicles with heavy damage. EMS crews were immediately evaluating seven total patients, with one victim pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim killed in the crash was initially identified as a woman, age 76, of Ingleside in Lake County, Illinois.
The crash with severe damage was located just north of the exit to Golf Road, and about at the point where the exit ramp begins for the Golf Road exit.
The crash was initially reported as involving three sedans and a pickup truck.
An extra ambulance was assigned at 3:59 PM — North Maine Ambulance 1’s crew was assigned (from North Maine Township/Des Plaines).
Lanes 1, 2, 3, and 4 were down.
An Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officer (CRO) investigated the scene. No official information was initially available but the crash appears to have been a high-speed rear-end type of crash.
