Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 6:01 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 to a report of a crash with injuries involving a motorcycle and Ford F-150 pickup truck on Algonquin Road between Briarwood Drive and Dempster Street in Mount Prospect.




Police, firefighters, and paramedics discovered a motorcyclist down unresponsive next to his motorcycle in the eastbound shoulder lane of Algonquin Road. CPR was administered at the scene, but the motorcyclists was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash scene was located in front of an auto repair shop at the southeast corner of Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive South on eastbound Algonquin Road between Briarwood Drive South and Dempster Street in Mount Prospect.

The crash involved the motorcycle impacting the rear-end of a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck.




Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) members were assigned to the scene, and worked for several hours to gather evidence and thoroughly investigation the crash scene.

Initially, the identity of the motorcyclist was not released, except that he was an 18 year-old resident of Mundelein.

Algonquin Road was closed to through traffic in both directions between Cedar Glen Drive and Dempster Street, except some local traffic was allowed in nearby apartment complexes and the Briarwood Plaza shopping center. Arlington Heights police officers assisted with traffic control.

MOUNT PROSPECT POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE …

Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at approximately 6:00 AM, the Mount Prospect Police Department received a 911 call of a traffic crash involving a motorcycle near the intersection of Algonquin Road (Route 62) and Briarwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist lying in the roadway as good Samaritans were attempting to provide help. Officers attempted to render aid to the motorcyclist, later identified as Daniel Vazquez, 18 years old, of Mundelein, but he had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed Vazquez was traveling on a motorcycle, wearing a motorcycle helmet, eastbound on Algonquin Road in the median lane. The motorcycle struck the back of a grey pickup truck being driven by a 19-year-old male of Antioch, that was preparing to turn left into a private driveway. A white colored pickup truck traveling eastbound Algonquin Road, being driven by a 56-year-old female of Hoffman Estates, was also involved in the crash. The two drivers of the pickup trucks were not injured as a result of the crash.

This fatal traffic crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team. Algonquin Road was closed between Dempster Street and Embers Lane and reopened at approximately 1:00 PM. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing and more information will be provided when it is available. The Mount Prospect Police Department requests anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information to contact the department’s Major Crash Investigation Team at 847-818-5301.
