CHICAGO – The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 25-year-old Tayvon Green-Powe of Harvey, IL for two counts of Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), stemming from a recent road rage shooting incident. ISP also arrested 25-year-old Kraig Payne of Chicago, Illinois for Aggravated Fleeing to Elude (Class 4 Felony) and three counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) for his part in the incident.
ISP Troop 3 responded about 10:07 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2024 to a report of shots fired on Interstate 57 northbound south of 111th Street near the Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago. Upon arrival, officers learned that a red Chevrolet Impala had rear-ended a Toyota RAV-4 and both vehicles had pulled over. The driver of the Toyota then exited their vehicle and was shot at multiple times by the driver of the Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene before officers arrived. The driver of the Toyota was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
ISP officers on Tuesday, on June 4, 2024, located the Chevrolet, as well as Green-Powe and Payne, at an address in Harvey, Illinois, where both suspects were taken into custody. ISP officers located multiple firearms in Payne’s possession at the time of his arrest. After an extensive investigation, Green-Powe was identified as the shooter.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Wednesday June 5, 2024, approved the above-mentioned charges and Payne and Green-Powe were transported in custody to the Riverdale Police Department pending their first court appearance.
