Harvard Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics responded about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 to a report of a commercial building fire near the Harvard Moose Family Center at 22500 Route 173 in Harvard. The commercial building involved with a fire was actually just east of the Harvard Moose Family Center.
The building with smoke showing was a 50-foot-by-150-foot commercial building used by a wooden pallets business in the block of 22000 Route 173. Firefighters on arrival discovered heavy fire from the rear of the building where there were thick trees, and also wooden pallets and vehicles stored outside of the building.
Firefighters forcibly entered the building to gain access to the fight the fire interiorly after a transitional attack from exterior to interior.
A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm on Box #5-780 MABAS was activated by 10:52 PM. Also, a Mobile Ventilation Unit from MABAS Division 8 (stationed at New Milford Fire Protection District) was assigned to the scene to expedite the clearing of smoke and harmful gases out of the building.
No injuries were reported.

The fire was declared under control at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2024, but the building was damaged by heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. The Box Alarm was struck out at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and is not initially indicated to be suspicious
