Police, firefighters and paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024 to a report of a crash at Biesterfield Road and Meacham Road Elk Grove Village involving a dark sedan and a black SUV. However, less than ten minutes before the crash, police were investigating a report of reckless behavior involving one or more occupants of a dark sedan, who were reported to be throwing something at another vehicle before a dark sedan was involved in the high-speed crash at Biesterfield Road and Meacham Road.
Upon arrival at the intersection, police discovered two vehicles with severe damage at the scene. A Honda SUV was located at the northeast corner of Biesterfield Road and Meacham Road with the engine ripped out, and separated over 200 feet to the northwest on the west side of Meacham Road. Inside the Honda, police, firefighters and paramedics discovered the 45 year-old female driver unresponsive and barely breathing. She was treated with Advanced Life Support, and transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
A dark Lexus sedan with severe damage and the rear license plate missing or blacked out was located in a parking lot driveway to Staples and Home Depot, over 330 feet northwest of the Honda. Three teens and an adult were occupants of the Lexus sedan. They were transported to nearby hospitals, where they were treated and released.
The four occupants of the Lexus were northbound on Meacham Road at high speed when they crashed into the Honda SUV. The direction of travel of the Honda SUV was eastbound, according to the Elk Grove Village Police Department.
Elk Grove Village Police Department with the assistance of the Major Case Assistance – Serous Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) team are gathering evidence and conducting interviews, to attempt to determine the cause of the crash — including which driver disobeyed a red light, whether the teens and adult survivors were drinking alcohol, and whether they were involved in reckless behavior targeting other motorists before the crash.
According to the Elk Grove Village Police Department, initial reports indicated the driver of the northbound Lexus sedan disobeyed a red traffic signal at the intersection.
The female driver of the black Honda SUV was a mother of five. Her identity was not initially released, except that she was a resident of Des Plaines, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
