Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 to a report that the contents in a large semi-trailer dumpster were on fire next to The Clove mixed use — mostly residential — building that is under construction at 210 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove.
A black smoke header was visible from south of Dundee Road in Arlington Heights.
Buffalo Grove quickly had two handlines led out with water on the fire from Engine 26 and an elevated master stream flowing from Tower 25. Fire and heat were threatening the building, but firefighters were able stop the threat within about 10 minutes.
Fire command declared the fire was knocked by about 2:40 p.m.
Firefighters checked for fire extension inside the 7-story residential building under construction and continued to soak the burned debris to prevent a re-kindle of flames. Firefighters used a power saw to cut in the metal side of the semi-trailer. The top of the semi-trailer was already open by design.
Wind was from the East at 10 MPH with an air temperature of 73°F at 1:52 p.m. according to the NWS station at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling and Prospect Heights. The black smoke was carried west by the winds toward Buffalo Grove.
No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters and paramedics from Wheeling and Long Grove provided mutual aid assistance at the scene of the fire.
