Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators are investigating a fatal single-vehicle traffic crash that possibly involved alcohol and occurred late Sunday night near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Antioch firefighters and paramedics were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2024 to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash with injuries in the area of North Avenue east of Deep Lake Road in unincorporated Antioch. The crash scene was reported near the curve near the Wisconsin State Line in the block of 21600 West North Avenue near Burning Bush Lane. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 25-year-old man of Antioch, deceased, on the ground near the wreckage.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 27-year-old man of Antioch, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
A second ambulance was requested about 11:02 p.m., according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2022 Ford F-350, driven by the 25-year-old man, was traveling westbound on North Avenue, at what appears to be a high rate of speed. As the driver traveled westbound, he left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking several traffic signs. The Ford then rolled several times and struck a tree. The driver exited the vehicle and collapsed.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and an autopsy is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
North Avenue (also known as State Line Road) is a two-lane rural highway with narrow shoulders of asphalt and gravel on each side. The Speed Limit on North Avenue is 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images.
