Police from Schaumburg, shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, responded to a report of an active threat involving a report of a male with a knife near Door 2 at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Door 2 is located near Red Robin on the west side of the Woodfield Mall building.
Police immediately had a suspect in custody. The suspect, wearing a tactical vest, allegedly was threatening people in the mall with a knife. The male suspect was allegedly threatening an “active violent incident.”

Firefighters and paramedics were assigned to standby at Woodfield Mall at about 10:31 a.m. The suspect may have been transported to a hospital by Schaumburg paramedics and in custody of Schaumburg Police Department.
As a precaution, police were checking the property inside and outside to make sure there are no additional offenders associated with the potentially threatening incident.
A witness also reported that police were checking garbage cans for stashed weapons far from Door 2 at the second level near Macy’s.
The Village of Schaumburg reported at 11:30 a.m. on X.com that (a)t approximately 10 a.m., officers responded to Woodfield Mall for a report of a male subject threatening to harm people. Officers quickly took the subject into custody. There are no injuries reported, and officers are continuing their investigation.”
The Village of Schaumburg added that “(t)he inside of the mall has been searched; there are no indications of a threat at this time. There is police activity on the west side parking lot of Woodfield Mall; please stay out of the area.”
