Firefighters from the Bensenville Fire Protection District responded about 2:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024 to the report of a multi-dwelling residential structure fire in the block of 200 Sonny Lane in the southern area of town.
Initially, a nearby resident, who saw smoke and gave a different street address on Ferrari Drive near the scene. However, the multi-unit building has an automatic fire alarm system that notified dispatch of the correct location. The new information was immediately updated to responding units. The alarm also notified occupants to leave the building.
On arrival, Bensenville, Battalion 107 determined smoke was coming from the third floor and that everyone was outside of the building. Bensenville crews deployed handlines and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to a single unit that was unoccupied at the time.
Responses from Elmhurst, Addison, Wood Dale, and Itasca firefighters helped in extinguishing and overhaul efforts, according to the Bensenville Fire Protection District.
The fire is currently under investigation.
No injuries were reported, but the extent of the fire damage made the building untenable. The Village of Bensenville is working on relocation shelter of all residents effected.
