Police, firefighters and paramedics from Libertyville responded about 7:58 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 to a report of a fire at Joseph’s Florist, 1022 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville. At least one caller reported black smoke coming from a garage door at the commercial building.
Initially, there were no known injuries.
The fire was declared out by about 9:05 p.m.
The fire was elevated to extra-alarm status when a MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm on Box #46-11 was activated by 8:05 p.m. The box alarm was elevated to a Second Alarm at about 8:27 p.m., and at the same time there was Special Request for the MABAS Division 1 Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU-1), which is stationed in Elk Grove Village.
Milwaukee Avenue was shut down in both directions near the fire scene. Winchester Road east of Milwaukee Avenue was also blocked.
The fire scene activity affected the Jimmy John’s business, which usually closes at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
