Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 12:46 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 to a report of a crash into a patio deck on the Northwest Highway side of Big Ange’s restaurant, 640 West Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights.
The driver of a Lexus sedan was westbound on Northwest Highway, just east of Euclid Avenue, crossed the sidewalk, and accidentally crashed into the supports of the patio deck. The deck floor did not collapse.
Several members of the restaurant crew rushed over to help the woman driving the Lexus and made sure she was safe and comfortable.
Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics arrived and transferred the driver to the ambulance for an assessment for injuries. The driver decided against transport to the hospital, and then paramedics and police officers helped her gather her personal belongings from her car. Police apparently drove her home. There was no information available regarding any possible traffic citations.
Her Lexus sustained serious damage, and the restaurant deck took a significant hit, but the building did not sustain structural damage. A member of the Village of Arlington Heights Building Department responded immediately to inspect the safety of the structure.
The restaurant remained open for business, and was actually quite busy well past the lunch hour.
It was obvious the primary concern of employees and owner Angelina Fridono was the well-being of the driver of the Lexus. Except for the safety of deck looking forward, the major concern was for the driver.
The business immediately adapted very well to the accident affecting their location.
