Widespread Power Failures Affect Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg: Several Elevator Rescues

Police and firefighters from Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg began to respond about 1:13 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 to multiple reports of power outages in Schaumburg.

At least nine of the emergency calls involved elevator rescues …

1585 North Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates,

2800 Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates,

2875 Greenspoint Parkway at the Mainstay Suites in Hoffman Estates,

1555 North Barrington Road where a patient was struck in an elevator at St Alexius Medical Center,

650 East Algonquin Road where the elevator was stuck between floors,

150 East Beech Drive in Schaumburg,

300 South Roselle Road in Schaumburg,

1100 West Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg, and

1200 West Algonquin Road in Building M at Harper College in Palatine.




There were even a greater number of Activated Fire Alarms and CO Detector Alarms activated related to the power failure Tuesday afternoon.

Police officers were also assigned to multiple locations for traffic control where traffic lights were not operating because of the power outage.

Power lines were reported down in the block of 300 Lincoln Street in Hoffman Estates.

There was also a possible transformer explosion near the block of 1800 West Golf Road in Schaumburg.

Winds were a little breezy with the NWS Chicago office at O’Hare reporting winds from around 9 MPH to 12 MPH at the time of the outage. There was no precipitation measured or observed after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

ComEd crews were immediately assigned to scenes where necessary and working on equipment investigations and repairs.
