Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:51 PM Thursday January 11, 2024 to a report of a vehicle fire in the block of Elmhurst Road and Hiawatha Trail Mount Prospect, IL. Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Mount Prospect received a report from a police officer that he discovered a car on fire in the southbound lanes of Elmhurst Road.
A Chevy Trax became fully-involved with fire after a woman, who was driving the Chevy Trax, noticed smoke coming from the vents. At first she didn’t know what was happening, and then she realized her white Chevy Trax was on fire, she said. She came to a stop in the right lane of southbound Elmhurst Road just south of Hiawatha Trail. Then a Mount Prospect policed officer discovered the burning car, and firefighters were dispatched. The fire was extinguished within a few minutes, but the car was destroyed.
Elmhurst Road was blocked in both directions between Hiawatha Trail and Lonnquist Boulevard for at least an hour. The street was quiet after the fire was extinguished, ahead of an advancing major snow storm.
