Palatine Police Department released today, Thursday, January 25, 2024, the image of an SUV that is believed to be connected to the suspect of a homicide that occurred in late November. On Friday November 17th, 2023 at approximately 6:00 P.M., Palatine police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a person down and bleeding in the block of 800 South Plum Grove Road in Palatine. Upon arrival, officers located 30-year-old Jun Zhang unresponsive with life threatening injuries due to an apparent gunshot wound.
Jun was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Jun was an only child who emigrated from China to pursue an education and citizenship in the United States. He was recently engaged to be married.
During the initial investigation, video footage of the suspect vehicle was located. The suspect vehicle seen in the images below is believed to be a dark colored SUV, possibly a 2017-2020 Nissan Rogue or Murano. The Palatine Police Department continues to actively investigate the incident and is seeking help from the public to identify the person responsible for Jun’s murder.

Palatine Police and Fire Department personnel responded about 6:02 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2023 to a report of a person down and bleeding in the 800 Block of S. Plum Grove Road in Palatine. Upon arrival officers located a male victim, approximately 30 years of age, on the front porch of a residence. The victim had sustained life threatening injuries due to an apparent gunshot wound and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
