According to the NWS Office Chicago, the McHenry County Department of Transportation measured the coldest Wind Chill in Chicagoland overnight:
-43°F at 4:10 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2024 in southwest McHenry County, 5 miles east northeast of the unincorporated community of Herbert in Boone County.
All of the coldest Wind Chill observations occurred after midnight on Monday, January 15, 2024.
An observation of -37°F at 2:55 a.m. in Schaumburg reported the coldest Wind Chill in Cook County.
An observation of -36°F at 3:05 a.m. in Gurnee reported the coldest Wind Chill in Lake County.
An observation of -36°F at 3:05 a.m. near Glendale Heights reported the coldest Wind Chill in DuPage County.
Only one other location reported a Wind Chill in the 40s … a Clare, Illinois observation reported -40°F at 1:25 a.m. was the coldest Wind Chill in De Kalb County and the second coldest Wind Chill observation for Chicagoland.
The low temperature at O’Hare was -10°F at 7:41 a.m.
Wind gusts diminished last night about 2:00 a.m. Monday.
Chicagoland was under a Wind Chill Warning overnight Sunday to Monday, and the Wind Chill Warning continues until noon Tuesday. Then a Wind Chill Advisory is active from noon Tuesday until 9 AM Wednesday.
