CARDINAL NEWS Good Samaritan Calls Police, Gets Shot When Back Up “Kia Boys” Crew Arrived to Pick Up Thieves that Crashed Stolen Kia
A man who was driving a white Infiniti east of the intersection of Camp McDonald Road and Wolf Road, was shot near Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane near the border of Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights Sunday night about 10:50 p.m., January 21, 2024. The Mount Prospect Police Department was investigating two scenes overnight Sunday to Monday — one scene at Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Avenue, and another scene at the Shell gas station at the southwest corner of Euclid Avenue and River Road.
There were no injuries reported at the scene at Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane.
Apparently, the driver of the Infiniti was behind the driver of a gray Kia Soul, which was occupied by one to three additional passengers. The driver of the Infiniti saw the gray Kia crash onto the lawn of a house at the northwest corner of Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane. Tire tracks in the snow leading up to the Kia indicate the driver of the Kia was traveling westbound and just missed a wood utility pole at the northwest corner of Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane.
As occupants of the Kia were fleeing the crashed Kia Soul, at least one of occupants fired a shot or shots that struck the male driver of the white Infiniti. The gunshot wound caused serious bleeding, but the driver of the Infiniti managed to flee the area in his vehicle and get help at the Shell gas station at the southwest corner of River Road and Euclid Avenue.
Police were first on the scene and requested that Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics expedite to the scene at the Shell gas station. The gunshot victim in the Infiniti was transported Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene at the gas station. Paramedics treated the gunshot victim and transported him to a trauma center hospital. Mount Prospect police began their investigation at both scenes, and continued a search for two to four occupants that fled on foot from the crashed Kia Soul.
Prospect Heights Fire Protection District also responded to the scene at Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane to check for hazards.
While searching the area for the Kia Soul occupants, residents nearby notified by a reverse 9-1-1 mass notification alert, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.
The Mount Prospect Police Department issued an Everbridge mass notification for a shelter in place to homes in the immediate area near Camp McDonald Rd and Wolf Rd, as officers were searching for “at large subjects” involved in the shooting of a motorist.
The police department described a possible road rage incident involving a firearm, but did not describe that a shooting had occurred. Initial descriptions of the two to four subjects, possibly involved, were males wearing all black.
