Police and firefighter/paramedics from Niles responded about 2:17 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2023 to a report of a crash involving a stolen 2011 Hyundai in the block of 8600 Milwaukee Avenue near Crain Street in Niles.
The crash occurred after a Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the stolen vehicle at about 2:15 p.m. near Milwaukee Avenue and Golf Road, and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled south, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy was unable to make a traffic stop.
Police authorities report that there was no pursuit, but that the driver of the stolen Hyundai crashed into another vehicle on Milwaukee Avenue south of Crain Street. The crash was located south of Dempster Street (US-14) near Niles Polish Deli, and a residential neighborhood consisting of single-family homes and apartment buildings on the east side of Milwaukee Avenue, and Maryhill Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue.
Four offenders fled from the stolen vehicle after the crash into backyards nearby. A Niles Fire Department ambulance was dispatched so that paramedics could treat and transport the innocent driver whose car was hit by the driver of the stolen Hyunadi. The innocent crash victim was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, treated, and released from the hospital.
A second ambulance was assigned to the scene in case any of the fleeing offenders were injured.
Police used a drone to assist with capture of the four suspects in the stolen Hyundai.
The crash also took down a lamp pole.
Initially, no information on charges or citations was available.
