According to the NWS Chicago office, a BURST OF SNOW WILL LEAD TO SOME SLICK TRAVEL TUESDAY MORNING (targeting Central Cook County, DuPage County, Northern Will County, Southern Cook County)…
A burst of heavier snow is moving across parts of the Chicago area. This will lead to slushy snow accumulations, primarily on untreated, elevated, and less traveled roads resulting in some slick travel for morning commuters. Use caution, slow down, and allow extra stopping distance in snow this morning.
NOTE: Snow is observed in northwest Cook County and Lake County as well.
Expectations for Tuesday, December 5, 2023 …
Snow this morning with slushy accumulations mainly on grassy and the coldest surfaces.
Transition to drizzle in spots early this morning, although spatial extent of any freezing drizzle will remain low and of minimal impact owing to temperatures at or above freezing.
Lingering rain/drizzle through late-morning/early-afternoon
Scattered lake effect precipitation (mainly rain) develops later Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night.
The cloud cover forecast –and hence the temperature forecast — is a bit uncertain Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
Weather Radar shows a band of snow moving east with the trailing edge approaching western Cook County at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday.
Snowfall accumulation at 6:30 a.m. is ZERO on paved Arlington Heights surfaces (although might be slippery), and around ONE INCH on grassy surfaces and other colder surfaces.

While main roads remain just wet, a burst of heavier snow is moving across the W and SW suburbs and will lead to some accums on side streets, bridges, and untreated surfaces. Expect reduced visibilities and patchy slick travel! #ILwx pic.twitter.com/nndg9dEfBY
