Grayslake firefighters and paramedics responded about 6:03 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 to a house fire in the block of 18000 Twin Lakes Boulevard in Wildwood near Gages Lake and Grayslake.
Firefighters received a report that a sunroom was on fire with flames visible and sparks visible on a power line. All residents were evacuated, but pet cats were reported still inside the home. There was no update on the outcome for the cats.
When Battalion 27, Engine 271, Ambulance 271, Engine 273 and a Gurnee ambulance, personnel discovered heavy fire coming from the rear of the home.
Crews initially went to a defensive fire attack to knock down the large body of fire at the rear of the home. Crews also entered the home through the front door to complete a search of the residence. After the heavy fire was knocked down, crew entered the home and completed overhaul and hit hot spots to extinguish the remaining fire.
Fire command reported “wires down” on the scene.
Grayslake activated MABAS Box 27-2 to the 4th Alarm (engines only). Command reported “fire out” and struck the Box Alarm at 7:58 p.m.
The fire is under investigation.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters on the scene; however, five homeowners were displaced from their residence.
The Grayslake Fire District was assisted at the scene by Gurnee, Newport, Round Lake, Lake Villa, Fox Lake, Countryside, Wauconda, Beach Park, Waukegan, McHenry, Barrington, Lincolnshire Riverwoods, Long Grove Fire Departments.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were also assigned to the scene.
