Thursday evening, December 16, 1773, a group of men disguised as Mohawk Indians and who called themselves the Sons of Liberty, boarded three ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, while uniting people against British authority in support of the New Republic.

To commemorate the Boston Tea Party event, a multitude of organizations worked together to create a commemorative year (December 16, 2022 – December 16, 2023) of public engagement, dynamic programming, special exhibits, events, installations, and performances. This year of commemorations will feature unprecedented levels of collaboration between organizations across Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including museums, schools, and historical organizations, in addition to Boston’s arts, tourism, and hospitality industries. The year will culminate in a grand-scale, live reenactment of the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 2023.
