Police, firefighters and paramedics from Fox River Grove responded about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 to a report initial of a brush fire or vegetation fire behind Lucky Lucy’s 7 at 412 Northwest Highway in Fox River Grove.

The first fire crew on arrival reported a structure fire, and upgraded the fire response to a structure fire response. The fire also involved a shed or similar structure that was possibly in a residential property behind Lucky Lucy’s 7 property. The residential address behind the commercial property is in the block of 400 Lucille Avenue, and is directly across the street from the Fox River Grove Protection District fire station at the corner of Lucille Avenue and Illinois Street.

Power lines were also involved in the area, but Lucky Lucy’s 7 did not lose power. Firefighters checked for extension, and there was no fire at Lucky Lucy’s 7, however business operations were temporarily interrupted.

A fire department engine crew used their deck gun over the roof of the Lucky Lucy’s 7 building from the parking lot to hit the fire in the property behind. There was brush vegetation and possibly a tree also burning.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the Lucille Avenue side as well as the Northwest Highway side. Firefighters could be seen overhauling a shed, and pulling up corrugated steel north of Lucky Lucy’s patio.

The fire was extinguished within about 15-20 minutes.

A black smoke header was visible to firefighters responding from other communities, and motorists along Northwest Highway could also see the smoke header.

Initially, no injuries were reported.

According to the NWS weather station at Chicago Executive Airport — the reporting station for Fox River Grove — winds at 4:52 p.m. were from the Southwest at 3 MPH. Smoke was hanging in the air after the fire was extinguished. The header could be seen pushing north before the fire was extinguished.
