A Chicago resident out on bond for Attempted Murder in Will County was captured in Oak Brook in DuPage County less than one hour after robbing a woman with the threat of a handgun outside Woodfield Mall in Cook County Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2023.
Jaquan Wilkins, age 28, is no longer free on bond after DuPage County Judge Brian Jacobs ruled Friday, November 10, 2023 that Jaquan Wilkins poses a threat to the safety of others, and is a high flight risk. According to DuPage County court records Wilkins, of the block of 1000 East 101st Street in Chicago was charged with Criminal Damage to Government-Supported Property in excess of $500 for his part in ramming a police vehicle with his gray Mazda while he was being pursued following the armed robbery outside Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

Wilkins is accused of disobeying a uniformed Oak Brook police officer’s order to stop, and then driving through a red light on Ogden Avenue. Next, he allegedly threw a stolen 9mm Glock G43X handgun out of his vehicle’s window, and allegedly deliberately hit the rear end and driver’s side of a police vehicle, as he drove on to I-294. The police vehicle was unmarked, but emergency lights were activated and the siren was on during the attempted traffic stop.
Also, while a Villa Park police officer was pursuing the suspect earlier near Route 83 and Interstate 88, Jaquan Wilkins crashed into two vehicles. Also, according to Oak Brook police, Wilkins allegedly rammed a vehicle near Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook.
Two police pursuits and multiple collisions occurred before the capture of Wilkins — all in less than one hour after the armed robbery at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

Prior to the police pursuits in DuPage County, Schaumburg police observed security video from Woodfield, and discovered that the Woodfield robbery was captured on camera. A description of the suspect and the suspect’s dark gray Mazda 6 was shared to area police departments via a Real Time Information System operated by law enforcement agencies.
ARMED ROBBERY …
Charges related to the armed robbery at Woodfield were not announced as of Friday, November 10, 2023.
Police officers from Schaumburg responded about 1:33 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 to a report of an armed robbery outside Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Initially, the precise location of the crime at Woodfield Mall was not disclosed.
Police received a report that an armed offender robbed a woman while her young child was in a car seat in her Audi SUV outside Woodfield Mall. Wilkins allegedly took a purple purse and the keys to the Audi SUV. The suspect then fled in the dark gray Mazda 6 sedan.
No injuries were reported as a result of the armed robbery.
A description of the suspect, vehicle and the license plate information was collected from the initial investigation at Woodfield Mall, and immediately shared with area police departments.
License Plate Readers (LPRs) detected the offender’s vehicle in DuPage County, and police began to converge in the area.
Initially, Wilkins had fled in the vehicle described as a dark gray, possibly 2012, Mazda sedan, northbound on Meacham Road from Golf Road in Schaumburg.
Villa Park police spotted the vehicle, later identified as a Mazda 6, in DuPage County. Initially, Wilkins was described as a male/black wearing a mask, and armed with a handgun — color unknown. No additional physical description was available.
Allegedly, Villa Park police witnessed Wilkins crash into two vehicles before entering Interstate 88 WEST from Route 83 in Oak Brook, and the police pursuit was interrupted. The vehicle was expected to have visible damage.
Oak Brook police re-acquired visual contact with the Mazda 6 after another vehicle was rammed by the suspect near Oakbrook Center near the outer ring road driveway to 22nd Street, and the police pursuit continued toward I-294. The driveway at Oakbrook Center is about 2 1/2 miles from I-294.
Wilkins, after ramming a police vehicle on I-294 with his gray Mazda 6, was reported in custody with Oak Brook police about 2:25 p.m. Initially, no injuries were reported as a result of the police pursuit, crashes, and arrest.
PRIOR CRIME …
Wilkins was arrested in June 2018 on charges of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Wilkins was accused of shooting his girlfriend and a man who was with his girlfriend. Bail for his Attempted Murder and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon charges was initially $2 million, but was reduced to $750,000.
Wilkins posted $75,000 (10%) bond in September 2022. His court schedule involved 95 court proceedings from June 22, 2018 to July 28, 2023, when the most recent trial setting hearing was held. The Will County Court Records indicate his Jury Trial date for Attempted Murder and Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon charges is set for March 4, 2024.
