Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine rescued a man after responding about 1:18 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023 to a report of a man that looked like he was going jump off the Lake Cook Road bridge west of Hicks Road in Palatine — west of Menards in Long Grove.
Initially there was a dispatch for paramedics and police officers to check for the well-being of a man that looked like he was going to jump into the water from the Lake Cook Road bridge between Hicks Road and Rand Road. Then about two minutes later, the male jumped into the water. Paramedics were told that the best access to the patient was the southwest corner of Lake Cook Road and Hicks Road in a parking lot of the Dream Clean Car Wash. Local fire department divers were assigned to the rescue call, and MABAS Division 1 Divers were also assigned for a drowning response.
Divers made contact with the victim by about 1:35 p.m., and divers completed the rescue, and had the victim out of the water by 1:40 p.m.
Extra crews were returned beginning about 1:37 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. — Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Rolling Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, Buffalo Grove firefighters, divers and paramedics were returned.
Police shut down on Lake Cook Road between Rand Road and Hicks Road. Also, traffic on Hicks Road was fully backed up in both directions between Rand Road and Lake Cook Road.
Palatine Fire Department Ambulance 81 paramedics transported one patient to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The condition of the man was not initially available.
