Illinois State Police troopers and Palatine firefighters and paramedics responded about 10:47 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023 to a report of a crash involving an IDOT truck and multiple vehicles.
Firefighters reported a stretch of ice about 100 yards long.
Firefighters discovered a crash on Route 53 and Rand Road, and at Route 53 and Palatine Road. Each crash was in the southbound lanes over the bridge or just south of the bridge.
Firefighters requested southbound Route 53 be shut down by Illinois State Police at Lake Cook Road, and also requested that salt truck cover Route 53.
Lanes were cleared by about 11:56 p.m. Tuesday with all lanes re-opened.
There were also several crashes on I-94 in northern Lake County and Kenosha County, Wisconsin.
