The Cook County Medical Examiners Office disclosed Tuesday morning that the driver killed in a crash at Quentin Road and Hillside Street was an 85 year-old woman and a resident of Palatine. The driver’s identity was not initially released.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 2:55 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 to a report of a rollover crash with ejection at Quentin Road and Hillside Street in Palatine. The Palatine Police Department confirmed that the crash involved a single vehicle that struck multiple fixed objects, and killed the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police, firefighters in paramedics on arrival, discovered a vehicle facing southbound in the front yard of a house on the west side of Quentin Road near the intersection of Quentin Road and Hillside Street.
Firefighter/paramedics pronounced one person deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported at the scene. A neighbor indicated that her husband witnessed the crash and/or the immediate aftermath of the crash, and he said the driver of the wrecked car was a young girl.
Firefighters also checked for hazards and discovered a power line down and/or a problem with electrical equipment nearby. ComEd was requested to respond to the scene, and they were on the scene mainly working on Hillside Street west of Quentin Road. At 4:30 p.m. ComEd reported no power outages in the neighborhood of the crash scene.
A single-family home was struck near the front door, but the house was not rendered uninhabitable.
Southbound Quentin Road was closed to thru-traffic at Palatine Road. Quentin Road has an absolute closure in both directions between Glencoe Road and Kenilworth Avenue.
Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) investigators began setting up for an extended crash investigation within an hour after the crash occurred. The MCAT-STAR investigators are assisting Palatine Police Department investigators.
