Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 7:33 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 to a report of a shooting near an apartment complex on Palm Drive just west of Busse Road in Mount Prospect.
Information from authorities is not available, but apparently a person was shot at or near the CVS store parking lot, 1002 Busse Rd. in Mount Prospect, at the southwest corner of Golf Road and Busse Road. The victim and the shooter may have fled south, toward the apartment complex in the block of 1700 Palm Drive in Mount Prospect; or the shooter may have fled in a vehicle, and was no longer in the area.
There was a blood trail from the CVS parking lot toward the apartment complex, but apparently the victim did not get to the apartments. A witness that lives at the apartments said a fire department ambulance was in the CVS parking lot north of the apartment complex. The shooting victim was transported by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics, with an extra paramedic on board the ambulance, to a local hospital — apparently with life-threatening injuries.
The shooter was described as possibly a male/Hispanic wearing a black hoodie and a black mask.
Mount Prospect police officers searched an apartment building on Palm Drive while some police officers were positioned outside, armed with rifles. Apparently there was no suspect inside the building. A resident of the building said that they were not allowed to leave the building or enter the building, while police were searching the apartment building. Police were also carrying body shields, and pedestrians were not allowed to pass the apartment building while walking along the sidewalk on Palm Drive.
Apparently, no suspect is in custody.
The CVS store was closed during the shooting investigation in the parking lot. Arlington Heights police officers assisted Mount Prospect police officers at the scene.
