Illinois State Police troopers and firefighters and paramedics from Schaumburg responded about 7:42 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 to a report of a semi-trailer truck fire in the westbound lanes of I-90 just east of Barrington Road near Hoffman Estates. The driver was safely out of the truck when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters on arrival reported the fire involved the cab, and requested a second fire engine and a tender (water tanker) to respond to the scene. An Inverness tender was assigned at 8:10 a.m.
Firefighters cut into the side of the trailer to check for ignition of contents and extinguish fire that extended into the contents in the trailer. Initially there were no details available regarding the extent of heat or fire damage that occurred inside the trailer. Contents were removed from the trailer, and placed on the roadway.
At least two westbound right lanes were shut down at the scene near Mile Marker 63.
