The Palatine Police Department announced today, Wednesday, August 23, 2023 that the 15 year-old male shooting victim that was shot on Clear Creek Bay in Palatine on August 17, 2020, died yesterday, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 just after 11:00 p.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge — due to the injuries he sustained in the shooting.

The shooting victim was a resident of Mount Prospect, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office.

The Palatine Police Department also announced today, that before the shooting victim died, a 14-year-old male offender connected to the shooting was charged in juvenile court with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. The male suspect is being held in custody at the Cook county juvenile detention center in Chicago.

Earlier today, August 23, 2023, an arrest warrant was issued for a second offender, 18-year-old Jesus Pantoja of the 1500 block of Silver Lane in unincorporated Palatine. Pantoja is to be considered armed and dangerous. The investigation into the shooting death of the 15-year-old victim continues and anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Pantoja is urged to call the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000.


Palatine police officers responded about 5:19 a.m. Thursday August 17, 2023 to a report of shots fired in the block of 1700 East Clear Creek Bay in Palatine. Upon arrival, police officers found numerous spent shell casings, but no injured victim or victims. At approximately 5:26 a.m. police officers responded to the block of 1200 Long Valley Drive in unincorporated Palatine (about 1.4 miles south of the Clear Creek Bay scene) and found a 15-year-old male victim with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Cook County Sheriff’s deputies provided mutual aid back up at the scene for the Palatine Police officers at the Long Valley Drive Scene.




The Palatine Fire Department was assigned to the Long Valley Drive scene. Paramedics treated the victim with Advanced Life Support, and transported the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he was initially listed in critical condition.

A witness in the Clear Creek Bay neighborhood, which is just east of Baldwin Road and north of Dundee Road, said she initially hear a rapid firing of about 10 gunshots. She heard a woman screaming, and then heard two more shots. Apparently police located many shell casings at the northwest corner of Clear Creek Bay and Hidden Creek Circle — about 200 feet east of Baldwin Road, and about 2000 feet north of Dundee Road.

A secondary source told CARDINAL NEWS that the driver of a red Jeep arrived in the southeast parking lot area of the property of the Long Valley Apartments early Thursday morning. Initially, police have not confirmed whether the shooting victim drove himself in the Jeep, or was a passenger in the Jeep. The rear window of the window was shot out, according to the secondary source. The vehicle was towed away by police by around 10:00 a.m.

Long Valley Drive intersects with the west Frontage Road that runs parallel to the west side of Route 53. The second scene at Long Valley Drive was 600 feet north of the intersection of Frontage Road and Rand Road.




A thunderstorm with heavy rain passed over both scenes beginning around 6:30 a.m.

The Palatine Police Department continues to investigate, and is asking citizens with any information about the shooting or related circumstances to call the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000.
