A 60-year-old Twin Lakes, Wisconsin man has died and a 52-year-old Woodstock, Illinois woman is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle in Marengo, Saturday afternoon, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The 60 year-old man driving the motorcycle is believed to be at fault in the crash.
A McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy discovered a crash involving a white SUV and a motorcycle with two people on the ground at about 4:21 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023. The deputy reported one person was unconscious, and one person was conscious and breathing. The McHenry County Deputy reported at about 4:23 p.m. that CPR was started on one of the victims. A passerby was also involved with CPR as the male victim was not responsive.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry Conservation Police Department, and Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded at 4:22 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023 to the report of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in unincorporated Marengo. A LifeNet helicopter was requested to be on standby by about 4:24 p.m. and requested by Marengo Fire Battalion 11 to respond to the scene by 4:33 p.m. The helicopter landed at the landing zone on
A Huntley Fire Protection District ambulance was dispatched to the scene at Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road at about 4:32 p.m.
The Twin Lakes man was pronounced deceased on scene, while the Woodstock woman was flown with life-threatening injuries by LifeNet medical transport helicopter to Javon Bae Hospital on Riverside Road in Rockford. The driver of the Mitsubishi SUV and two juvenile passengers were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately four and a half hours for an extended crash investigation. Kishwaukee Valley Road was closed between Route 23 and Hiawatha Lane.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero SUV, driven by a 38-year-old Woodstock woman, was eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road, when a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, occupied by the Twin Lakes man and the Woodstock woman, was traveling westbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road. The motorcycle operator turned southbound towards Deerpass Road in front of the Mitsubishi SUV. The action of the motorcycle driver caused the vehicles to collide in the eastbound lane of traffic. The riders of the motorcycle were both thrown from the motorcycle, causing injuries that resulting in the death of the Twin Lakes man and the critical condition of the Woodstock woman.
The investigation is ongoing and is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. There is a very slight road curve west of the intersection near the crash scene intersection, and there are some small hills and valleys in the vicinity.
