Mount Prospect police, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023 to a report that a bicyclist crashed with a car in the block of 900 East Evergreen Avenue in Mount Prospect. The bicyclist was seriously injured, but was not initially assessed to be suffering life-threatening injuries.
The bicyclist, traveling westbound on Evergreen Avenue, crashed into the back of a sedan that was parked at the westbound lane curb of Evergreen Avenue just east of George Street in Mount Prospect. The crash shattered the entire rear window of the mid- to full-size sedan, and also caused vehicle body damage in the rear trunk area of the car, which was legally parked on the street. Initially, there was no information available about why the bicyclist failed to avoid crashing into the car.
The crash occurred a little over an hour after a landscaping worker walked off a trailer ramp at a job site and was hit by a passing work van about two blocks south of the location where the bicycle crash would occur.. The landscaper was seriously injured and transported by Des Plaines Fire Department paramedics to a nearby hospital. Mount Prospect and Des Plaines police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the crash on Mount Prospect Road because the location was near the border of Mount Prospect and Des Plaines. The Mount Prospect Road incident was located in the jurisdiction of Des Plaines.
