Police, firefighters, and paramedics from McHenry responded about 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 to a report of a fire at an apartment building at Fawn Ridge Apartments, 1941 North Orleans Street in McHenry.
Police were first on the scene and reported the back of the building was fully-engulfed with flames. The building affected by fire was a 2-story, eight-unit apartment building. A second-floor balcony was especially involved with fire.
Fire command, on arrival by 3:39 a.m., reported fire showing on the second floor, and that the fire appeared to have worked its way into the attic. Offensive firefighting with searches were initially deployed, but when searches were completed, firefighting tactics transitioned to defensive operations (exterior operations).
Two residents were assessed by paramedics; and one resident was transported in Good Condition, and one resident refused medical transportation.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury.
An official cause for the fire has not been released. The apartment building declared uninhabitable.
A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1241 was requested at 3:43 a.m.
A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1241 to the second level was requested by 3:54 a.m.
An Investigators Box Alarm (#5-1290) was also activated at 4:07 a.m.
The box alarm was struck out by about 4:15 a.m.
Electric and gas utility personnel responded to the scene.
