Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded about 12:37 p.m. Friday, June 2nd, 2023 to a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle at Deerfield Road and Piccadilly Road in Highland Park. The victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, were she was pronounced dead. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital.
According to the Lake County Coroners Office, the deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Maureen Wener. On Friday, June 2nd, 2023, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary results indicate that Ms. Wener died from blunt force injuries.

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Highland Park responded about 12:37 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 to a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist at Deerfield Road and Piccadilly Road in Highland Park. Officials confirmed early that a female bicyclist, approximately 40 years-old, died at the scene.
First responders arrived and confirmed a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle and was severely injured. The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by ambulance. She died from her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist the Highland Park Police Department.

The female victim was discovered unresponsive next to a blue bicycle and a bike helmet. CPR was administered at the scene.

The bicyclist was severely injured and the offending vehicle left the scene prior to emergency services’ arrival. The victim was transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she succumbed to her injuries.

Deerfield Road was blocked in both directions between Carriage Way and Ridge Road during an extended crash investigation. Deerfield Road was congested west to Waukegan Road.
Deerfield Road was re-opened about 4:20 p.m. Friday.
