Police from Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights responded about 3:00 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 to a report of an offender armed with a gun or other gun-related incident near the H.O.M.E. Bar, 1227 North Rand Road in Prospect Heights. Details about the initial gun complaint were not available, but Arlington Heights police discovered an Infiniti JX35 matching a vehicle description connected to the case minutes later. Arlington Heights police followed the silver Infiniti JX35 on Palatine Road and southbound on Arlington Heights Road, and ended up completing a traffic stop on southbound Dunton Avenue between Hawthorne Street and Euclid Avenue. Around ten police vehicles total from both Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights converged on the scene.
Three male/white suspects were initially detained, and one was eventually arrested and transported from the scene by Prospect Heights police officers. The Dunton Avenue scene was apparently the location of a ‘Showup’ face-to-face eyewitness identification. One suspect that was detained was removed from a Prospect Heights police SUV and walked south toward Euclid Avenue where another police officer in a Prospect Heights police SUV arrived, apparently with a witness inside the police SUV. Lights were shined on the detained suspect for a moment, and he was then walked back to the police SUV where he was detained. The suspect was then transported from the scene.
Another male/white, heavyset subject yelled to the detained suspect that he would bail him out. Police officers subdued him, telling him not to yell in the neighborhood in the middle of the night. Another skinny, shorter suspect was also on the scene. Apparently, the other two male adults were released. The three appeared to be in their 20s or 30s.
The silver Infiniti JX35 was towed from the scene for a police hold on the vehicle.
There was a ‘gunshots heard’ report on the Ring Neighbors app posted at 12:09 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 “Driving down rand I heard gunshots coming from the east” but there was no confirmation of any connection to the arrest that occurred in Arlington Heights. The Neighbors app plots the report in the vicinity, but this is not necessarily reliable because it is unknown whether this is where the ‘Neighbor user’ lives or whether this is the location where the report was submitted. The Neighbors app does not specifically define location details. The ‘Neighbors app user’ reported the gunshots were heard at 12:05 a.m. Also, there was no indication that shots were fired; and no scene was discovered that showed police looking for casings.
The information in this article is an early report published before any complete summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
