Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 9:36 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries at Oakton Street and Douglas Avenue in Arlington Heights. The crash involving a street race damaged a house, but did not apparently cause any serious injuries.
Police called for paramedics to respond to the scene to check on a victim exposed to airbag deployment. Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered two vehicles with moderate to heavy damage with one SUV that struck the side of a house and came to rest in the backyard at the southwest corner of Oakton Street and Douglas Avenue.
A vehicle parked on a driveway may have also been damage by the SUV or debris from the SUV. The north wall of the house was damaged by the SUV; and a downspout, fencing, and landscaping were also damaged.
Crash victims refused medical transportation.
The driver of the SUV missed a large tree in the parkway by less than 8 feet before striking the side of the house and continuing into the backyard, striking a detached garage. A vehicle strike into the tree could have caused a fatality inside the SUV.
Evidence in the crash included vehicle debris, structural debris, skidmarks, road scars with fresh gouges in the pavement.
A continuous skid mark approximately 70 feet long was located diagonally across the intersection of Oakton Street and Douglas Avenue. The skid mark was generated from east to west from the middle of Oakton Street just west of the intersection to the curb at the southwest corner of the intersection. The remaining tire tracks were located on lawn.
Both vehicles were apparently traveling westbound on Oakton Street, apparently in a some type of street race.
Information regarding possible citations or charges were not initially available.
