Police, firefighters and paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 6:09 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 to a report of a motorcycle crash with a car at Devon Avenue and Ridge Avenue in Elk Grove Village.
CORRECTION: An initial report indicated the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and was wearing a protective motorcycle jacket.
Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a motorcycle and motorcyclist down in the westbound lanes of Devon Avenue just west of Ridge Avenue. The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries, and was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. There was an initial report from a reliable source last night that incorrectly stated the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. A photo submitted overnight shows the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and was wearing a protective motorcycle jacket.
The motorcyclist was identified as a 55 year-old male from Itasca, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office.
Devon Avenue was shut down between Tonne Road and Arlington Heights Road for an extended crash investigation. During the crash investigation, two driver broke through road blocks. One driver was headed westbound on Devon Avenue, and the other was headed eastbound on Devon Avenue. Both drivers were arrested suspect of DUI, and their vehicles were towed to a police holding area.
