Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 5:15 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2023 to a report of a single-vehicle crash with a pole with injuries at Rand Road and Dundee Road in Palatine. Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a vehicle was crashed into a large metal traffic signal standard at the southwest corner of the intersection near Mavis Tires and Brakes.
Initially the crash was believed to have involved entrapment, but police, who were first on the scene, reported the vehicle doors could be opened. Two injured victims were discovered, and an additional ambulance was assigned by 5:20 a.m.
One of the crash victims was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The other crash victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) personnel were assigned to the scene to provide technical assistance for the Palatine Police Department investigators. Following the on-scene investigation, the Palatine Police Department is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) specialized investigative unit.
