Glenview Police Officers responded about 3:13 p.m. Monday,
April 3, 2023 to a report of an armed robbery in the block of 1900 Tower Drive in the center of The Glen Town Center shopping center.
A female robbery victim reported that a male subject displayed a handgun, and demanded her purse. The female gave the male her purse, and he fled on foot northbound through the parking garage. The stolen purse was found in a parking lot in the 2900 block of West Lake Avenue. The female was not injured during the incident.
The suspect was described as a male thin build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants, and a black full-face mask with a red design.
The armed robbery is being investigated by Glenview Police Detectives, according to the Glenview Police Department. The Glenview Police Department stated that the police department believes this to be an isolated incident and no known threat to the public exists.
The police department was critically questioned on social media for describing the incident as an isolated incident with no known threat to the public, while the suspect was not in custody, and was considered “at large.” A commenter reported that according to rumors spreading among teenagers, the suspect is a high school student enrolled at a nearby high school — gloating about the robbery.
The police department was also criticized on social media for not providing a better description, although the suspect was reported to be wearing a full-face mask.
