An 18 year-old male motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon in a crash with an SUV Monday afternoon. Initially, the identity of the motorcyclist was not released pending notification of family members.
Round Lake Beach police officers and Round Lake Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics responded about 2:35 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023 to a report of an SUV crash with a motorcycle at Cedar Lake Road and Ferndale Drive in Round Lake Beach. Immediately after the crash, the motorcyclist was unresponsive, not breathing, and was without a detectable pulse. CPR was administered before paramedics arrived.
Paramedics from the Round Lake Fire Protection District transported the teen to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead.
A second Round Lake ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but it was initially unknown whether any other crash victims were transported.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating the crash. The Speed Limit on Cedar Lake Road is 30 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured November 2022. Cedar Lake Road is downhill in the northbound lanes, and there is a crest just south of the intersection of Cedar Lake Road and Ferndale Drive. There is a stop sign on each side of the intersection with Cedar Lake Drive.
After the crash, both the SUV and the motorcycle were located near the southeast corner of the intersection of Cedar Lake Road and Ferndale Drive.
