Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023 to investigate a report that a male resident of an apartment at The Residences near Tonne Drive and Seegers Road in Arlington Heights threatened another resident with a knife, and then barricaded himself in an apartment unit on the first floor, according to several residents.
Police responded first to the block of 2100 South Tonne Drive, and eventually called in a NIPAS Emergency Services Team to assist with accessing the barricaded male. The Emergency Services Team is a special tactical squad also known as SWAT.
Two armored Bearcat vehicles were positioned near the south side and middle of the second apartment building south of Seegers Road and just East of Tonne Drive. Tire tracks were visible in the grass after police left the scene.
The subject in the apartment was described as possibly a middle-aged man, who has caused disturbances at the apartment complex before tonight. A resident said that very loud music has been played in his apartment multiple times even at 3:00 a.m.
The incident causing police activity was resolved at about 8:30 p.m. Arlington Heights Fire Department was on standby at the scene, but did not transport the male resident after the incident was resolved. Residents at the apartment building told CARDINAL NEWS that the male resident was still in his apartment, and had not been arrested.
Several residents expressed fear of living in this situation, especially for the upcoming night. They hoped that police officers would provide extra patrols overnight.
Police had a white or light-colored Kia sedan towed from a parking lot near the building. Apparently the vehicle was seized for evidence or other reason. Initially, there was no information provided about any possible upcoming charges, or whether the male resident barricaded in the apartment unit was the owner of the Kia.
The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
