The driver of one of two vehicles involved in a crash Saturday at Lewis Avenue and Bonnie Brook Lane was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was a 44-year-old female resident of Waukegan, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. At least two other injured victims were transported to hospitals from the scene, one via a LifeNet medical helicopter that landed at Waukegan National Airport.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene of the crash.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Ana Garibay of Waukegan. On Monday, March 27, 2023, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary results indicate that Ms. Garibay died from Blunt Force Injuries as a result of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The Speed Limit on Lewis Avenue is 35 MPH.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Waukegan responded about 9:34 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries and two people unconscious at Lewis Avenue and Bonnie Brook Lane in Waukegan.
Upon arrival police, firefighters, and paramedics discovered two vehicles with moderate to heavy damage off the roadway in a grassy area. Firefighters and paramedics discovered three crash victims and called for a LifeNet medical transport helicopter to respond for the transportation of one of the victims. The LifeNet helicopter landed at Waukegan National Airport where a crash victim was transferred from an ambulance to the helicopter, and then transferred to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center.
Waukegan Police Department closed down the intersection to investigate the crash. The intersection and roadways nearby remained closed until about 5:30 a.m.
