A Palatine resident was arrested by the Downers Grove Police Department on a Riverwoods Police Department arrest warrant about 11:00 p.m. March 9, 2023 at a hotel in Downers Grove, accused of forcing a woman to perform a sex act at gunpoint at a Riverwoods Holiday Inn Express & Suites on December 22, 2022. Aronson was transported to Lake County Jail and processed at 3:07 a.m. March 10, 2023.
Matthew Aronson, age 25, was charged with three counts of felony criminal sexual assault and two felony counts of aggravated domestic battery, connected to the sexual assault at the Riverwoods Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
Allegedly, Matthew R. Aronson sexually assaulted a female victim at a hotel room in the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 2600 Lake Cook Road in Riverwoods after picking her up and giving her alcohol. Later, the woman reported the alleged crime to Highland Park police on December 23, 2023. The Riverwoods Holiday Inn Express & Suites is located near the Riverwoods border with Deerfield, which is just west of Highland Park.
Allegedly, Aronson demanded the woman perform oral sex on him and then he became angry when she refused. Aronson allegedly prevented the woman from leaving the room, grabbed her hair, pointed a revolver at her head, and punched her several times — eventually forcing her to perform oral sex.
The female, with injuries on her face and neck, reported to police that Aronson was the offender.
Allegedly, Aronson threatened and harassed the victim’s mother in February 2023. An order of protection for stalking was also filed February 22, 2023.

Aronson’s lawyer is criminal law trial attorney Peter T. Petrakis of Park Ridge.
Initially bond was set at $1 million by Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak, who increased bail to $3 million on bond review on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Aronson would need to post 10% ($300,000) in cash to be released from jail while his case is pending.
Aronson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Lake County Circuit Court, Room T020 on April 20, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
