The shooter at Covenant school Monday, March 27, 2023 has been identified as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, age 28, of Nashville.
The shooter blew out the side door to gain access to the school by shooting a weapon at the glass door. Police were dispatched at 10:13 a.m. When Nashville Metro PD police arrived, Audrey Elizabeth Hale fired shots at police vehicles from a second-story window.
Two police officers in a team of five advanced to the second floor to stop the shooter. The shooter, Audrey Elizabeth Hale, was shot and killed at 10:27 a.m., just 14 minutes after the active shooter call was dispatched.
During investigation, police found a map with plans of the shooting and a manifesto. Nashville Police Chief John Drake stated there is some theory that the the shooter’s identification as transgender is part of the investigation. A social media account that is no longer available showed Audrey Hale, identifying as “He/Him” and an Illustrator and Graphic Designer from Nashville, Tennessee.
The six victims fatally shot by Audrey Elizabeth Hale at Covenant School are identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, age 9; Hallie Scruggs, age 9; and William Kinney, age 9; Cynthia Peak, age 61; Katherine Koonce, age 60; and Mike Hill, age 61.
The Nashville Fire Department said on Twitter there are “multiple patients” but their conditions were not immediately known. The shooting occurred at The Covenant School. The shooter died after being “engaged by” officers, Metro Nashville Police said in a Twitter post. YouTube Tips ⓘ
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Nashville, Tennessee responded at 10:13 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 to a report of a mass shooting at Covenant School at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 33 Burton Hills Blvd in Nashville.
According to the Metro Nashville PD, the shooter was engaged by MNPD, and is dead. A female shooter was engaged by two police officers in a team of five officers, and she was shot and killed. The female initially appeared to be in her teens, and she was armed with two rifles and a handgun. She was later identified as a 28 year-old Nashville woman.
She entered the school through a side entrance and went from the first floor to the second floor, firing shots. The shootings occurred in a lobby type area on the second floor.
The shooter was deceased by 10:27 a.m. when she was shot by police.
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, also known as Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, confirmed that three children were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead. Initially the number of victims wounded was not available.

Initially there were no other shooting victims reported.
Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd. On a typical day there would be 209 students and about 42 staff members. There was no Metro Police School Resource Officer assigned to the school.
One police officer was injured by broken glass.
There is security video available from the school that is being investigated.
