A 71 year-old woman continues medical treatment after a serious crash just over a week ago near the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Magnolia Street in Arlington Heights.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment at Arlington Heights Road and Magnolia street in Arlington Heights. Five people were traveling southbound on Arlington Heights Road south of Central Road in a blue 2012 Ford Escape when the SUV left the roadway and crashed into a brick sign just south of Magnolia Street.
The Ford Escape struck a brick monument sign for AAEC Credit Union on the southwest corner of the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Magnolia Street. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Five ambulances responded to the scene and five people were transported to area hospitals. Firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows provided mutual aid assistance at the scene, and also transported some of the patients.
Four people were transported to Northwest Community Hospital. The 71 year-old female with more serious injuries was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Elmwood Park, along with three additional female passengers from Chicago, were all transported to Northwest Community Hospital with non-life-threatening (NLT) injuries.
The 71-year-old female passenger from Chicago, was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge suffering with a serious head injury, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
At the time of the release, the 71 year-old was in critical condition at LGH. Her condition one week later was unknown.

The investigation includes determining whether all passengers were wearing seat belts or which passengers were wearing seat belts.
Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) personnel were assigned to the scene to provide technical assistance for the Arlington Heights Police Department investigators. The Arlington Heights Police Department is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) specialized investigative unit.
Southbound Arlington Heights Road was closed between Central Road and Cypress Street during rescue and investigation operations. Northbound Arlington Heights Road was open, but no left turns were permitted to westbound Magnolia Street. Motorists were encouraged to find alternate routes, according to the Arlington Height Police Department.
While alcohol/drug impairment was not suspected at the time of this release, the root cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway and striking the monument sign was still under investigation. This release will be updated should any tickets or charges be filed reference the crash.
